Can I copyright an Internet business and if so, how?

How do I copyright an idea over the Internet?If I was interested in doing business over the Internet? If I came up with the idea, how do I copyright it so that I can take full claim to the concept? Thank you very much!

Ideas themselves can not be copyrighted because they are not fixed into a tangible medium of expression. For a work to be copyrighted, it has to be written down, saved to a hard drive, DVD, CD, etc. In other words, in the example you gave, your idea alone could not be copyrighted, whereas you could copyright the actual website's layout and text once created. To copyright something, you need only create it, and be able to prove that you were the first to do so. Once you have written something, it is automatically "copyrighted". The process of actually registering the copyright however, although optional, can and will come in rather handy should you ever wish to challenge someone for infringement, or are perhaps challenged yourself for some reason at a latter date. To register a copyright costs approximately $50. You need only complete a short form, pay the prescribed fee, and submit a copy of your work via the most convenient method.
