If I made an online game as a fan-site for a popular fiction book, without using any original text, images, or video, (only character names), and included references to the book's author and copyright holder, am I violating copyright laws or does this fall under "fair use"? What if the book's owner has sold the right to someone else to produce and sell a game? Do I need the author's permission to produce a game inspired by their book?
