Do wrestlers have to copyright their name & gimmick to use it in other promotions?
|
I know if they use their real name when working in a certain promotion they can use it in other promotions, but what if they use a pseudonym? Do they have to copyright it themselves in order to use it in other promotions? Does that "rule" apply to everyone, especially if they are working for WWE? I already know that the Dudley Boyz had trouble with the whole copyrights thing and they can't use the Dudley Boyz name in TNA.
All Answers To QuestionsAnswer 1
No. Usually the WWE owns the rights to them. That's why the WWE doesn't let most of them use their real name. For example, Kurt Angle can take his gimmick else where becasue he's just being himself. Answer 2
The WWE lawers usually copyright catchphrases and/or names and/or logos
i think that the names are in copyright to the circut that they wrestle for.
(Ex. When Mr. Kennedy moved to TNA he changed to Mr. Anderson) Answer 3
Some do if they use their real name, or created their gimmick.
Others who got help from creative don't. Answer 4
They usually copyright their name if its not their real name, that's why almost no recent wrestlers use their real names. They can't really copyright a gimmick because that's too vague. Like if Santino Marella joined TNA, he couldn't use that name but he could still play his humorous Italian stereotype gimmick. << GO BACK to questions
