I was thinking along the same lines when I saw that question (I'm assuming you know what I'm talking about, and that this question was inspired by that earlier one about Christians pirating videos and illegal downloading music). I'm an atheist, but c'mon, that was stretching it a bit.

Almost none of it!! Even the ten commandments were taken from much earlier religions and related to other gods and one idol!!!

Of course. However, the publishers might well have gone bankrupt. Silly question really. Murder is currently illegal in the US and the UK, but, amazingly enough it still happens. Just because there are laws against things does not stop them happening...

All of these arguments are specious. Copyright laws are only good for around 75 years (though could be death of author+years). Even if they ripped off ancient Sumeria, it would be in public domain. The public domain Bible would have been fine, though maybe they would have used some satire to get around anything dodgy.
