How do I copyright a book that I want to publish?

You see, I'm a budding writer and I want to let the world know my book PHANTAZIES. I want to copyright it first before publishing it so no one would go ahead of me, but I'm too clueless to know how! Plus, I think I'm too young to even publish this book *sob*.

All Answers To Questions

Answer 1

go to the website for the Library of Congress and it will tell you.

Answer 2

Copyright law is very tricky. Your book is technically copyrighted the moment you created it. You already own the rights to it.

Answer 3

u'd have to produce the book first. If it's such a hot and original book, then start writing it now and by the time u are done, u could be old enuuf to get a c-right.

Answer 4

http://www.copyright.gov/register/literary.html No one is too young to get a copyright.

Answer 5

Actually - publishers do not recommend that you copyright it before it's published. That shows sign of being an amateur. But to put it plainly - once you've saved it to your computer - you just copyrighted it. In the mean time - if you wanted to get published - focus on the publishing part then focus on officially copyrighting it.

Answer 6

You own the copyright as soon as you create the work. All copyright is is the right to make copies. What you need to do is to register your copyright with the Bureau of Intellectual Property ( at the library of congress.) Registration will give you the protection you want. As long as the book is good, it has a chance of being published. Age has nothing to do with it. A kid in Kamloops was a published author at age 10 or 11. Finish the book, then rewrite it, ("writing is rewriting") and good luck. For what it's worth, November is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWritMo. Google for it.

Answer 7

Once you publish your book it is automatically copyrighted. But to be on the safeside, keep your manuscript and the hard copy of your manuscript in your bank locker to avoid the legal ramifications, if any, in the future date. Also see the websites given by the people above. These will be helpful.

Answer 8

Very easily. You can use an online legal service if you want. Here is a resource I used before.

Answer 10

Library of Congress has forms for copyrights- fill one out (I think you can get one online) and send it with $20 to them. I've also heard that you can mail the original copy to yourself and keep it in the sealed envelope and it will stand -even in court- as copyrighted. (copy-written?). I don't think there's an age limit for publishing. If it contains explicit material, though, you might want to get some legal advice. Good Luck with the book.
