How do I copyright lyrics and poems?

If I post poems and lyrics on a web page or anywhere on the internet, is it classed as intellectual property and therefore copyright or do I need to pay to copyright my lyrics and poems before I display them for the public to read?

All Answers To Questions

Answer 1

They need to be copywritten. One needs to contact a copywrite attorney. They can be expenisive. Good luck.

Answer 2

Lyrics and poems in order to be protected must be registered with the Copyright Office.

Answer 3

They are automatically protected by copyright law whether or not you have an attorney or whether or not it is registered.

Answer 4

once you write something that is original. it belongs to you. If you post your writing on the net. computer files keep track of when you wrote it, so if someone comes along 5 years later and likes your stuff, then decides to steal and so happens that they make millions as a result. Well then you can sue that person, and you will win in a court of law. You don't need to pay to have it copyrighted.

Answer 5

You can get a copyright in 48 hours without an attorney. Here is the source.
