I have come across 2 online games, both are free with options to pay for upgrades. They have maybe 20 percent difference between the two of them - menus, terms, even graphics and design are extremely similar. There is such a similarity between the two that I feel obligated to report this to someone. It's not obvious whose design came first, and so I'd rather not alert the companies themselves. What objective organization could I contact that would deal with copyright law for software? I believe both companies are based in the US, as am I. In response to the first answer - I am not talking about borrowing broad concepts. I mean that the software is identical in material, except for a very few additional features on each site. Absolutely identical, there can be no mistaking it. It would be similar to taking a thesis and tacking on one chapter, not like writing a paper on the same subject.

Hi, I studied copyright law in college. What seems to be the problem? Similarity between games is not a problem. Broad game concepts cannot be copyrighted, same as you can't copyright musical genres. There is no infringement unless they specifically stole code/material from the other source.
