How do you get around copyright infringement on Facebook?

I made a home video that was intended to be watched by family only and posted it to You Tube. It contains 10 seconds of a song by the Who and and 3 minutes of the song "Float On" by Modest Mouse. It was taken down last night and they sent me a notice of copyright infringement. I would really like to the use the songs. I have made other videos with songs and none of those ones have been taken down. What is the reason for this and how do i get around it put my video back up?

> I would really like to the use the songs. We don't always get what we want. You don't have the right to publish the music, doing so is illegal. > I have made other videos with songs and none of those ones have > been taken down. What is the reason for this They didn't get spotted.

Answer 2

The reason is that you used copyrighted songs without permission. Yes it is ridiculous that they're going after you over a family video, but legally they can. They can do a lot worse than that but usually they're satisfied just to get the video taken down. If you really want to use the songs, the first thing I'd do is not put them on YouTube. If you got caught once, you'll get caught again. Especially more recently, they have software that analyzes video and can strip the audio from your file before it's published. Find somewhere else to post it, if possible somewhere more private, or share it via email or on DVD.
