How do you get copyright permission for music?

I'm looking to make a YouTube drum cover, since I want my channel to be on YouTubes' good side (and I don't want the video pulled down), I DO NOT want to go about and do ith without a copyright permission. Where do I go and who do I ask for permission. I don't have a certain song though. I just want to know how to do it for now and future references. Thanks a lot!

Answer 1

Phone around a few solicitors or lawyers, try to get hold of one who specialises in entertainment and arts rights. If you know enough about the piece you want to cover, they'll probably be able to find who has the publishing rights, and how you go about reproducing it. Hope this helps

Answer 2

You have to copy your right to party.

As per your example above, you will need to acquire one or both of the following special kinds of license from the publisher, rights manager (ASCAP, SESAC or BMI) and/or copyright owner of the song. The first is a Synchronization License. Often called a "Synch License," a Synchronization License involves the use of a recording of musical work in audio-visual form, like an online video. As you are "performing" the work yourself, a Dramatic Performance Licenses may also be required (depending on the circumstances). These types of licenses are also called a Dramatic or Grand Rights licenses.
