How long does copyright last on a song?
|
How many years does it take before a copyrighted song is available in public domain again?
All Answers To QuestionsAnswer 1
never. it's art. it belongs to the artist NO MATTER WHAT Answer 2
people get stuff copyrighted so that other people dont steel theyre stuff. Answer 3
Huntsong is wrong, don't let him mislead you.
In Australia where I live all my songs are copyrighted with A.P.R.A.
Here the copyright goes for your Physical life time and then for another Fifty (50 years) after you Croak and any more money that you might make goes to your estate. In other Countries I'm not sure how long they last after your gone, maybe about the same time as here (give or take a bit).
I once got a Cheque when someone bought one of my songs and was inducted into the song writer's hall of fame. haha. Copyright them now or you could lose them. Also, with a name like Huntsong, he could be on the "look out" for something. Hope that help's a bit.
Cheers, Eric. Answer 4
Once a song is in PD, it cannot get out.
Copyright lasts the author's entire lifetime + 70 after the authors death in the U.S. and most countries Answer 5
In America, it's life of the author plus 70 years and for works of corporate authorship 120 years after creation or 95 years after publication, whichever endpoint is earlier. As a result of the various copyright law revisions over the last century, anything from before 1923 is public domain. Answer 6
The answer is, it depends. There is a good chart that summarizes the situation here: http://copyright.cornell.edu/resources/publicdomain.cfm << GO BACK to questions
