The only way to get copyright to a piece of music is to compose it. Copyright belongs to the composer. What you want is permission to perform it. The process for that depends on where you are, and you didn't tell us. In the USA you pay a fee to an organization called "AS CAP" - the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers - which gives you the right to publicly perform copyright works.
