I want to submit an idea for a t-shirt to Harley Davidson. How do I go about sending a design w/ my copyright?

I have an idea for a shirt for Harley Davidson. I have searched the world over for a shirt like this and there isn't one. I thought I would submit a proposal to the company to use my design. How do I go about it? It must be sent via mail. I guess I could mail a copy to myself in order to copyright it. But the idea itself is the best part and I don't think it can be copyrighted. They could probably use the words and design their own version don't you think?

All they have to do is change your design or idea a little bit and they can call it their own. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it... Answer 2
They have artists and designers on staff, they will not accept an unsolicited request.
Corporations cannot take the risk of a law suit by doing what you request. Do not submit a proposal. If they want an "idea," their creative department will provide it.

I don't know how you could copyright anything that incorporates the name or logo of Harley-Davidson, anyway.
Will the design work as a generic motorcycle shirt, that you market yourself? Answer 5
Harley Davidson uses their own marketing and design firms. Sorry to say it, but they wouldn't consider using a design sent in to them from an "unknown".
I don't mean to burst your bubble, but I work in the field and I know how it is. What you can do is: Begin a portfolio of designs, have each one copyrighted and then research companies who accept design samples. Your portfolio should be both digital images (scanned photos of your artwork) on CD and 35mm slides containing photos of your work. This is how a professional artist submits samples.
