Is it possible to copyright a book of drawings?

I want to start selling my drawings individually but i have about 100 of them. Is it possible to just copyright all of them in a book instead of one by one?

You can copyright them as part of a collection. You need to fill out form VA. You must submit the whole piece to the copyright office though in order to get it copyrighted.

Answer 6

The VA form is the form you need to use off the US Copyright site. The filing fee is $40 or $45 (it went up from last year when it was only $35) but it goes for your lifetime plus 65 years after that. You can do them as a complete book or a complete set--everything at once. Cartoonists do this for a year's worth of strips, or for their books. Same for photographers doing portfolios of work all at once, so group filing is pretty common. The form is very easy to fill out, you'll need to send them a copy of the 'book' and your check for the fee, and you're covered soon as that hits the mail to them. I've sent in items twice, and the return on the paperwork does take about 8 months (they went way behind after 9/11, it used to be a 3 week turnaround for the return paperwork) that's why they say right on their site that you're covered as soon as you drop it in the mail at your end to them.
