I was planing on making a sequel to an anime using many of the characters of the original, (and using an idea the creator of the original had if there could of been a sequel?) ...But, I just don't know if that's legal, if it becomes very successful. I would like to know more about the copyright law, also.

Yes, it would be illegal. The characters and their likenesses are probably owned by the creators.

It would be a "derivative work". And only the original copyright owner has the right to make a "derivative work". Or... they can grant you that right. But you have to ask them *in advance*. If you go ahead and do it yourself without getting permission, you could get in expensive legal trouble. :-(

just don't name it after the original anime i mean what are they gonna sue you for. they cant own a name or a face, think my names jay can i sue one of my friends parents because his name is jay so by all means make the anime and then send me the first episode. :)
