What agency would handle copyright violations?

Can I stop a national chain from using my unauthorized photo without an attorney? Can I contact them to cease and desist or get a public agency to help (like state Atty. general)? Its been stolen from the internet.

Answer 1

It would be a private civil action because there is no state interest in protecting your trademark/copyright. That is instead yours to protect. So if answering your question literally, it would be the judicial branch of government that would spend its resources to adjudicate the matter. The intellectual property you own was granted in part of the power of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. You can probably find a cease and desist letter online but it's always better if you have a real attorney to do this for you so they don't laugh in your face. You might contact the legal department and attempt to talk to them directly and see where that goes. They might want to see some of your documentation for them to show their corporate bosses to convince those higher up. Don't be surprised if they ask for a complete file.
