What are the guidelines for copyright-free logo usage?

Basically, a friend of mine saw a logo example (copyright-free) on a blog, and decided she liked it, so she made an EXACT copy of that logo, and is using it as her own logo. She is a photographer. Is this legal?

Unless the image specifically said "copyright-free," it wasn't.
Copyright automatically exists as soon as something is created, and your friend needs documentation that the logo is copyright free. It may have been published on the blog under "fair use," to inform or educate, but the original creator still has copyright.
Your friend needs to make sure that the blog was the creator of the logo, or find out where it came from.
If caught using a copyright image, your friend could be liable for a lot of money. << GO BACK to questions
