What are the steps to file a Copyright and Trademark application?

I just started a company and would like to file a Copyright and Trademark application. Nothing fancy - all I want is to secure my Company name, logo and such. Can I do this myself? I don't have the money to spend on lawyers. Can someone tell me the steps that I need to take?

Answer 1

STEP ONE: If in Manila, you have to prepare all the documentations first. Probably, abroad they will have the same procedures. Go to the Patent Office (Buendia or Gil Puyat Ave.) and ask for requirements. Govt. offices nowadays ask for international standards, even in paper size. Like, they require A4 size as against the Letter size most Filipinos use. Ask for a sample copy of the one you will file with them. They have standards. STEP TWO: Prepare in formal writing ALL what you want to file; focusing on what makes your logo, your drawing, your specs or whatever, DIFFERENT from others. Well, you really got to see one of the samples. Maybe, you can try downloading from the samples in the Net. Securities and Exchange Commission gives samples in the Net. Probably the Patent Office gives also.
