What copyright form is required to copyright a 9-track music album?

Just tell me the copyright form (or forms) needed to copyright a 9 track music album as ONE piece of copyright, I dont want to fill out 9 forms. I also know the site copyright.gov to obtain the forms online, so also dont tell me about that either. Thanx! I'll appreciate ALL answers!

Answer 1

You don't have to fill out any forms to obtain a copyright, although it is a good idea to do so.

Simon, I google'd this keyword and it came back with a slew of items associated with your question. Here is the link: http://www.google.com/search?q=music+copyright+forms&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe= You may benefit from reviewing several items of the listing as I have found the copyright institution to be quite specific on: what form you are requesting - (PA?, SR?) what you are copyrighting - (the music, the lyrics, the ensemble); what MUST be included -(the song, printed music on stave, lyrics) ; how many authors are being named; EACH TRACK of your collection (album) must be processed INDIVIDUALLY; who recorded it - (you?, your sound tech/engineer?). when i reviewed a search list from yahoo's search results, i found this really insightful video you could check out: http://www.ehow.com/video_2372389_music-copyright-forms.html Please note: a self addressed certified copy of the material provides LIMITED protection of your work. You will hear this process referred to as a "poor man's patent". It helps you establish a date but does not provide you with proof. I found that it pays to provide the artist/composer/band with the insight prior to expressing a definitive answer to this question. When you have this acclimation, the person, web service, or any other contact you ask this question can't bullshit you. Incidentally, your question here, came up in the search list. Good hunting
