When copyrighting, do I need to mention to the copyright office sound clips that are in public domain?

I have just recorded an album that has two 5-second sound clips that are in the public domain on one track. They are embedded in the rest of the song among many other parts and the piece is not derived from them but stands overall as an original work. Do I need to mention them in the limitation of claim section of the copyright application? If so, how do you find previous registration numbers for public domain works?

Answer 1

sound clips and your music should be copyrighted by an sr form. However you can copyright the text that makes your work original via a tx form. I would refer to the library of congress 1-202 number were you can possibly have a rep answer this quickly. It is also a good number to have so you can easily track the copyright timeline of your work.
