Who owns the copyright on book blurbss?
|
Who owns the copyright on the blurbs? The book-author? publisher? or the blurb-author? or is it public domain?
Can I use the blurb from a book with atrribution in my website without violating copyright?
Would you help me by pointing out how can I find out on this?
Thanks for the answer dragonquilca.
I want to make the book links and the associated blurbs available in a blog. I do not intend to use the blurb for another book.
All Answers To QuestionsAnswer 1
As an author who penned her own blurb for the back jacket, I would say that I own that blurb. I'm under the impression that if the publisher writes the blurb, then they would hold the copyright.
If you need more info, however, I can contact my publisher on your behalf.
If you're wanting to use a blurb that belongs to someone else, I would suggest contacting the publisher of the book in question. Answer 2
It doesn't really matter for your purposes whether the author or the publisher owns the copyright for the blurb. Unless there is an agreement otherwise, the author of the blurb does. But there may well be an agreement.
I cannot imagine there would be any problem with the use you are thinking of. Even if there were a technical violation (and there probably isn't -- it is probably fair use) there aren't any real damages worth pursuing. If someone objects and contacts you, take it down. << GO BACK to questions
