Why do games have increasingly stricter copyright protection, even though they never stop piracy?
|
No matter what game companies do to protect their games from piracy, it never seems to work. Spore was given more copyright protection than I think I ever heard of for a game. (thinks the 3 install limit), yet it was cracked almost as soon as it was released.
Meanwhile, the paying customer gets inconvenienced and treated like a criminal. So my question is, if copyright protection measures don't work, why are the game companies still implementing them? The pirates will still find a way around them and frustrated gamers may not even buy the product.
All Answers To QuestionsAnswer 1
Spore was cracked like 3-4 days before official release. Companies put that up there because if they didn't, they would just make a piraters job easier. They're are trying to find a way to prevent pirating, if you can think of a better way to stump piraters, why don't you show it. Answer 2

alexander, mind your words please. he's asking about why we, a legitimate game owner, who pay our own money to get legal game, still and will always been treated like a criminal by EA and other giant money making companies.Yes,EA have the rights to protect their software, but they certainly have no right to screw up our expensive computer.the anti-piracy will only lead to more piracy.

Securom only adversely affects people with legitmate, purchased games.* Yet despite complaints, pleas, and innumerable customers lost, EA continues to use Securom in all its games in successively virulent versions.
we just want to play the game. is the piracy the only solution we have here? God's know Answer 4
I agree 100%!I have had such bad experiences as a paying customer due to copyright protections programs such as SecROM ect..I was after a time, finally able to get my game to work, but I had to jump through many hoops figuratively speaking,to accomplish this.I don't mind SOME problems as I'm a pretty easy going person. But the magnitude of problems I had was really sad and pathetic. It shouldn't take several days or weeks to get a game to run.If it wasn't for my patience and desire to play,I would have returned my game to the store and gotten my money back.It nearly makes you want to get a download of the game so you will be able to install and run the game without all the problems. In having so many layers of copyright protection and those programs reading your harmless cd copying software as illegal, they are ENCOURAGING piracy.People are going to do what they have to do to make the game work, even if that means they have to obtain it illegally. Many don't WANT to, they were willing to pay good money but they feel they MUST because they simply want the game to work properly.Others give up in frustration, try to get their money back, and in many cases are denied because of some stores policies of returning opened games. Its all really pathetic.
I guess the answer to your question is that their greedy and only care about money. They will sell you a game,it doesn't work, and they will tell you to go get another copy. The truth is that they don't give a crap about Piracy at all, this is just a front to make you buy the game over and over.Actually what they need to realize is that they are destroying their business because like you said many frustrated gamers will just give up or not buy the product. << GO BACK to questions
