I am a songwriter and I want to go public with some of my work. I have in the past heard you need a PA form, I am just asking to make sure if that is correct. Also I would like to know do I have to copyright a recording of the music? If so, what form if not the same and do I have to send the forms in at the same time? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I don't know what forms you need but my friend once wrote some lyrics, sealed them in an envelope and sent them to herself so the postal stamp with the date on the envelope would prove you wrote them before anyone else. You just need to keep the envelope sealed and in a safe place. =]

Hiya, The answer above is what is called "Poor Man's Copyright" and it's bad advice, because it has never held up in court. You automatically own copyright on everything you make, but you need to have some independent back-up of your claim to copyright. That's why there are services like www.ProveMyCopyright.com. If you are making lots of different songs and lyrics etc. I would suggest checking them out.
