Hello there, I need help on copyright violations. I posted a video on YouTube of me doing something and the place I happen to be at was playing music in the background. Would they flag me for not having permission to use the music? Even if the video was about what I was doing and I wasn't the one playing the music?

I put up songs usually on Youtube so the majority of the time, they get copyrighted. Sometimes the video is pulled off youtube but the majority of the time the send me a notice that just states that there are going to be ads on the video. How many violations can I get before I end up getting suspended?

I have found people listing lots (as in hundreds to thousands) of dvds that they have copied and are selling. Many are television shows that haven't even been released on dvd. I would like to know where I can report these. A lot are also Disney and I know they take copyright violations very seriously, so if I can report them to Disney somehow that would help too. Thanks!

Say you're a musician and you buy a new Yamaha synthesizer keyboard. This particular keyboard comes with hundreds of pre-programmed sounds. You use the synthesizer with one of the preprogrammed sounds on a recording. After the initial recording you edit the clip using pitch correction and hugely manipulate the effect before laying the sound to a CD. If this was to be copyrighted, is the use of this sound illegal?

This might seem a bit odd, but I have often wondered, with the almost identical nature of various recent and time-tested self-improvement materials out there, why haven't self-help authors, motivational speakers, or even Scientology sued one another to pieces over Intellectual property or copyright violations, et cetera? Does this mean anyone can all but mimick Joe Guru's latest / greatest book or technique without fear of legal repercussion? I understand that it is commonly accepted knowledge that very few truly "novel" concepts emerge in personal development tools. The question is, with the exception of the recent lawsuit over "The Secret", why is it that such similar materials like self-help books do not violate some legal scenario? Most thorough reply wins. I am trying advertise my product, but I had not done this before. If anyone can give me any pointers, that will be great. How do I get permission to use like say music from another artist? Must I get permission to advertise a product from where I designed it, like say Media Movie Maker? Even where I designed the pictures?

I read somewhere that the Better Business Bureau was suing a few companies for using the BBB logo on their web sites without the permission of the BBB. If my companies logo was used by someone else I would have know idea how to go about checking this unless I knew the name of the company. How do you think that they found out about this? There is really no way to discover this (sadly) without actually knowing the name of the company and I wonder what may have prompted the BBB check on this. I hope you understand what I am asking.
